This weekend is the last regional dance competition for seniors at JCD. Yesterday the senior project girls (there are four of us now!) helped organize the props for this competition so we could distribute them to others to bring to Lorain County Community College, the venue for the competition. We also revised the picture schedule for Monday and Tuesday while Jordan burned all of the music for this weekend (while each competition has different rules, most, including this one, require that each song be burned on a separate CD - that's around 90 CDs to burn for each competition).
This competition is Kids Artistic Review (KAR) Regionals, and because we are going to KAR Nationals in Las Vegas, it's an important competition. Tonight are intermediate level solos (there are four levels at KAR: primary, secondary, intermediate, and elite. Every participant is assigned a level by the competition's computer system based on how many hours a week they dance and how many years they have been competing), and Maddie and I are competing in this division. Tomorrow we also have all of our group numbers which include small groups, large groups, lines, superlines, and productions (basically just based on the size of the group performing and whether or not the dance has a specific story line).
We'll update you on how it goes!
Sigal and Maddie
Last weekends competition went extremely well! On Friday night, Intermediate soloists (Sigal and I's division) competed. Our studio performed excellent and all of our soloists placed in overalls, with our studio taking all the places 1-8 out of a very large division. Competition went until about 11 o'clock friday night and began again at 7 AM Saturday morning at the Stoker Music Hall in Lorain. We had a total of 14 group numbers between 8AM and 5PM. We started with our productions in the morning. These are the dances that incorporate our entire team: from the very youngest line to us seniors. We had five numbers in this category, all which placed extremely well and earned very high marks. We then moved onto small groups. These are dances that have no more than nine dancers in each and include only the dancers in our age range. We have three of these numbers that we competed throughout the late morning. Into the afternoon we had our large group numbers. These numbers combine two different groups and include all dancers who are in high school. Once again all of these numbers went off without a hitch and won many overall awards. The weekend was extremely successful and puts us in a very good position for the National competition in Las Vegas in July.
ReplyDeleteDespite how well we placed, the awards were not the best part of this weekend. Our teachers and teammates organized a surprise for the seniors. Each one of our teammates made a card for the 6 seniors and our teachers brought in a cake to congratulate us on our final regional competition. The cards were extremely heartfelt and thoughtful tear jerkers and made all the stress of the competition worth it. It was a fantastic way to end our last ever regional competition season!
